Fruit and vegetables

Fruit and vegetables should make up over a third of the food we eat each day.

A great way to increase your daily portions of fruit and vegetables is to have at least one portion with each meal
  • For meals such as chillies, curries and casseroles you could use less meat. Instead add extra vegetables such as carrots, peppers, or mushrooms
  • Sauces often require tomatoes. Tinned tomatoes or a carton of passata are as good as fresh. Adding an extra tin can make sauces go further and feed more
  • Big bags of frozen peas and carrots last a long time and are quick and easy to add to meals
  • Bulking out sauces with extra vegetables can help your family reach their 5 a day

Fresh, frozen and tinned fruit and vegetables are all healthy choices.
